Germany-based renewable power and storage developer, ENERTRAG has secured communal agreement for the planned 200 MW / 800 MWh Bertikow battery storage project located at the Bertikow substation in Brandenburg, Germany. The approval was issued by the municipality of Uckerfelde, meets a regulatory requirement for advancing the grid-scale battery energy storage system.
The Bertikow battery storage project is designed for four-hour storage duration and direct integration at an existing substation, enabling connection to regional transmission infrastructure. Once operational, the facility will be integrated into the ENERTRAG Verbundkraftwerk®, a portfolio concept that combines wind, solar, and storage assets to support grid operation. The battery system is designed to balance variable generation and increase regional power system flexibility.
According to the company, the communal approval followed a consultation and review process involving the municipal council, residents, and project representatives. Earlier stages raised reservations, leading ENERTRAG to revise engagement methods. The company conducted direct discussions, public information meetings, and issued technical documentation to clarify project scope, design parameters, and grid interaction aspects.
The municipal council assessed the project using established planning and regulatory criteria, reviewing technical design, land use, construction impacts, safety aspects, and operational parameters. The decision represented a municipal planning approval rather than a commercial or financial transaction
The battery storage facility is scheduled to enter service in Q3 2027, following completion of planning, permitting, and construction. Project phases are to be coordinated with local authorities, particularly for site development and grid connection.
