Pure Lithium Corporation, a US-based vertically integrated lithium metal battery technology company, appointed Dr. Tobias Glossmann as chief product officer. Glossmann will lead the company's product and technology strategy, guide the conversion of its battery science into engineered products and direct product engineering activities.

Glossmann joins Pure Lithium following a 25-year career with various Mercedes-Benz companies. Most recently, he worked as principal systems engineer at Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America, focusing on battery technologies ranging from materials to fully integrated systems. He also held companywide responsibility for high-voltage safety.

His battery engineering career began in 2001 at DaimlerChrysler in Ulm, Germany, before continuing in Michigan. His experience spans cell chemistry, thermal modelling, scientific computing and battery systems engineering. Glossmann also co-founded the annual Lithium Metal Battery Workshop, which brings academic and industry participants together to address technical barriers to lithium metal battery commercialisation.

In addition to advising the U.S. Department of Energy’s Battery500 consortium, Glossmann leads the Electrochemical Society’s Detroit Section as chair. He serves on advisory bodies connected with the University of Michigan EV Center, Cornell University’s Center for Alkaline-Based Energy Solutions, and Stony Brook University’s College of Engineering. His qualifications comprise a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Missouri-Columbia, an M.S. in Chemistry from Oakland University, and a B.S./M.S. in Electronic/Mechatronic Engineering from Esslingen University.

Glossmann said he intends to apply his battery science and engineering experience to bringing the company's lithium metal technology to market.
