EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Frontier Energy has selected Trina Storage to supply its Elementa battery system for the Waroona Renewable Energy Project in Western Australia. Stage One combines 132 MW of solar with an 81.5 MW, 6.9-hour BESS using DC-coupled architecture. The agreement includes a 20-year warranty and performance guarantees, with first generation scheduled from 2028.

Trina Storage, the utility-scale energy storage business of Trinasolar, has been selected to supply the battery energy storage system (BESS) for Stage One of Frontier Energy's Waroona Renewable Energy Project in Western Australia. The announcement was made on 17 September 2026.

Located 120 kilometres south of Perth, Waroona Stage One comprises a 132 MW solar facility paired with an 81.5 MW BESS offering 6.9 hours of storage duration. The project is described as one of the largest solar and battery hybrid developments on Western Australia's main electricity grid. First generation is scheduled from 2028.

Under the agreement, Trina Storage will supply its Elementa utility-scale DC battery storage solution. The system incorporates lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells manufactured at Trina's battery production facility in Changzhou, China.

The Elementa product range features intelligent liquid cooling and multiple layers of safety protection. These include heat, gas and smoke detection systems, alongside active fire protection technology.

The Waroona project will use a DC-coupled architecture, which introduces additional complexity into the design and integration of its solar generation and battery storage components. Trina Storage will draw on Trina Group's experience in high-power photovoltaic modules and tracker systems to address solar plant design requirements and system interfaces.

Warrick Stapleton, Head of Sales (APAC) at Trina Storage, said the company worked closely with Frontier Energy throughout the procurement process to understand the project's requirements and demonstrate how its technology could support the development.

He also highlighted the role of projects such as Waroona in providing reliable, dispatchable capacity to Western Australia's South West Interconnected System (SWIS). Trina Storage expects to support Frontier through project delivery and the asset's long-term operation.

The Stage One supply agreement includes a 20-year warranty and performance guarantees. These provisions are intended to underpin long-term asset performance and support the project's financing requirements.

Adam Kiley, Chief Executive Officer of Frontier Energy, said Waroona Energy Park's integrated solar and battery strategy could support Western Australia's energy transition. He described Stage One as the foundation of the company's broader development plans, designed to support a more reliable and flexible electricity system.

Frontier Energy is planning additional stages at Waroona. The longer-term development is expected to reach around 1,000 MW of generation capacity and up to 660 MW of battery capacity.

The initial stage will combine solar generation and battery storage to provide dispatchable electricity and support flexibility within Western Australia's main electricity grid.
