Richardson Electronics, Ltd., a US-based provider of engineered solutions for renewable energy and power management applications, will deliver 18 customized BESS assets across seven remote communities in Alaska. The multi-million-dollar program will provide 7 MWh of combined storage capacity. Richardson Electronics is developing the systems in collaboration with technology partners, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

The BESS units are being customized around the energy requirements of the individual communities rather than supplied as a single standardized configuration. Richardson Electronics has designed the systems for operation in Alaska's challenging climate and extreme temperatures. The company is focusing the engineering work on performance, reliability, and operation under demanding environmental conditions.

The Alaska deployment combines Richardson Electronics' engineering, manufacturing, and systems integration capabilities with complementary technologies from its partners. Greg Peloquin, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the company's Power & Microwave Technologies and Green Energy Solutions groups, said that the project demonstrates how Richardson Electronics is combining its engineering capabilities with technology partnerships for challenging energy storage applications.

Richardson Electronics' product activities include engineered solutions, green energy products, power grid and microwave tubes, power conversion components, RF and microwave components, CT X-ray tubes, and customized display products. More than 50% of its products are manufactured in LaFox, Illinois, Marlborough, Massachusetts, Donaueschingen, Germany, or through manufacturing partners.
