AMEA Power, a UAE-based renewable energy company, has signed two agreements for a 250 MW/1 GWh stand-alone BESS in Uzbekistan: the Battery Storage Services Agreement and the Investment Agreement. As the banner at the ceremony showed, the system is to be built in the Bukhara Region. The documents were signed in Tashkent on 16 October 2026, and AMEA Power announced the signing on 20 October.
The agreements were signed on the sidelines of the first meeting of the Energy Sector Investors’ Council. On behalf of O‘zenergosotish JSC, the documents were signed by Suxrobjon Maqsudov, its Deputy Chairman of the Board for Commercial Affairs. Shokhrukh Gulamov, the Acting Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, put his name to them for the ministry, and Basma Bentaher, the Chief Development Officer of AMEA Power, signed for the company. Looking on were the Deputy Prime Minister, Jamshid Khodjaev, the Energy Minister, Sherzod Khodjaev, and the AMEA Power chairman, Hussain Al Nowais.
With 1 GWh of storage behind 250 MW of output, the system can run at full power for four hours. AMEA Power has said that the project will support the efforts of Uzbekistan to modernise its energy infrastructure, to make its grid more flexible and to bring a larger share of renewable power into the national system. The company has also called the signing an important step in its work in the country.
During the same event, Uzbekistan signed agreements for six fuel and energy projects worth $4.7 billion in total, as UzDaily has reported. By 2030, the country intends to build 5,000 km of power lines and 16 major substations, and it aims to raise its energy storage capacity to 4.5 GW. On the same occasion, Al Nowais was received by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and their talks were focused on cooperation in renewable energy.
AMEA Power has been operating since 2016 from its head office in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. The company invests in wind, solar, energy storage and green hydrogen projects across Africa, the Middle East and Asia, and in Egypt it has already commissioned a 600 MWh BESS at its 1 GW Benban solar PV project.
