Greenvolt Group, a renewable energy solution provider, has secured a €218 million (~ $252.66 million) financing package from UniCredit to support two large-scale battery energy storage projects in Poland being developed by Greenvolt Power.
The financing comprises €153 million (~ $177.34 million) in bridge facilities and a €65 million (~ $ 75.34 million) guarantee facility. The package will support project costs associated with the Ełk and Turośń battery energy storage systems in northeastern Poland.
The two projects have a combined capacity of 400 MW/1.6 GWh. Each facility is designed with 200 MW of power capacity and 800 MWh of energy storage, providing four hours of storage duration. According to Greenvolt, the projects are among the largest BESS developments in Poland.
The Turośń Kościelna project was officially inaugurated in July 2026. The Ełk project is expected to reach commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2026. Together, the projects are intended to support grid flexibility, renewable energy integration and energy security in Poland.
Greenvolt Group CEO João Manso Neto said the financing reflects financial institutions' confidence in the company and the projects it is developing. He also identified access to financing partners as an important part of converting Greenvolt's battery storage pipeline into operational assets.
Adrian Góralski, Director of M&A and Project Finance at Greenvolt Power, said the transaction builds on Greenvolt's existing relationship with UniCredit. He also noted increasing lender confidence in battery storage as an infrastructure asset.
UniCredit described the transaction as a customised €218 million financing package comprising the bridge and guarantee facilities. The bank said its support for the projects forms part of its approach to financing energy infrastructure across Central and Eastern Europe.
The transaction extends an existing financing relationship between Greenvolt and UniCredit. Previous transactions between the companies have supported utility-scale renewable energy developments across Central and Eastern Europe, including projects in Poland, Romania and Hungary.
With the latest package, financing is being directed toward Greenvolt's 1.6 GWh Polish storage portfolio as the two projects progress through different stages of delivery and operation.
