Nala Renewables, headquartered in Singapore, has started construction of a 50 MW/100 MWh battery energy storage system in Kauhava, Finland. It is the company’s first BESS installation in the country.
The project is being delivered by Sungrow and KSBR, with long-term financing provided by Societe Generale. Sungrow will supply twenty-two 5MWh units from its PowerTitan 2.0 BESS platform and is coordinating technical integration, operational support, and lifecycle management for the system, while KSBR is responsible for construction works at the site. The system is expected to reach operational status by the end of 2026.
Trafigura, will utilize the BESS capacity for its European trading activities once the system reaches full operation. Nala Renewables is a joint venture between Trafigura and funds managed by IFM Investors.
Mike O’Neill, Chief Executive Officer of Nala Renewables, said the Kauhava project is Nala Renewables’ first BESS development in Finland and shows its focus on Europe’s storage market. He noted that Trafigura plans to use the system in line with Finland’s grid and reserve market needs and added that the project includes grid-forming features to support network stability.
