News Synopsis
Qair, a France-based independent renewable energy company, has signed a three-year partnership agreement with France-based battery analytics software provider PowerUp to enhance the safety, reliability, and operational performance of its Stor'Sun battery energy storage assets in Mauritius.
The agreement follows a competitive benchmarking process in which Qair evaluated battery analytics platforms before selecting PowerUp's Battery Insight® solution for its asset management operations. The software will initially be deployed across four battery energy storage systems currently under construction and scheduled to be operated by Qair in Mauritius.
Together, the four Stor'Sun battery storage assets provide a combined capacity of 391 MWh. The facilities are designed to deliver frequency regulation, grid balancing and other ancillary services that support the stability of the Mauritius electricity network.
As part of the agreement, PowerUp will also provide commissioning support services to verify battery performance during testing before commercial operation. The commissioning process is intended to identify performance issues early and help the projects enter commercial service efficiently.
Battery Insight® uses advanced data analytics and predictive algorithms to monitor battery health, performance, endurance and operational safety. The platform analyzes operational data to help operators improve maintenance planning, optimize energy arbitrage strategies, manage battery degradation and extend asset life.
A key feature of the software is its predictive safety capability which can identify battery defects and provide alerts significantly earlier than conventional monitoring methods. According to PowerUp, the system can detect potential failures up to 12 months before they become critical, allowing operators to take preventive action and reduce the risk of irreversible battery damage.
The analytics platform also adapts its calculations to the operating profile of each battery energy storage system. This enables asset-specific performance monitoring and supports lifecycle management by reducing accelerated battery aging caused by unsuitable operating conditions.
Under the framework agreement, PowerUp becomes Qair's preferred provider of battery analytics solutions for its existing and future battery energy storage projects. The partnership establishes a long-term collaboration covering software deployment, monitoring services, and operational support.
The Stor'Sun battery portfolio represents an important component of Mauritius' electricity infrastructure by providing flexibility services that facilitate higher renewable energy integration. The battery systems help balance variable renewable generation while supporting grid stability through frequency control and ancillary services.
