EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Noveria Energy signed a grid construction agreement with TenneT Germany for a 250 MW battery energy storage system in Niedersachsen, northwest Germany, with grid connection targeted for early 2028. Noveria Energy announced that it has entered into a grid connection construction agreement with TenneT Germany. The capacity of this agreement is 250 MW BESS project in Germany, may begin in early 2028.
This agreement is signed on April 22, 2026 and is located in Lower Saxony. As Lower Saxony location is in northwest Germany, this region mostly links North Sea wind power to the rest of the country’s electrical grid. This agreement is a pivotal step that guarantees the project's timeline and aids in channeling its connection to the high-voltage grid.
The signing secures the grid connection schedule and once construction is complete, the system will operate under the agreement. It provides necessary framework for reliable grid operations and enables sustainable energy integration.
Battery energy storage systems are playing a major role in managing renewable generation growth in shares and ensuring security of supply. Noveria continues to improve its strategy of developing a portfolio of large-scale infrastructure assets which supports energy transition and resilience of the power system. The BESS will store excess renewable energy generated from wind, will be released during periods of high demand. This helps to stabilize the grid and reduce fluctuations in supply. This helps Germany push towards renewable based energy system.
Noveria Energy is a German project developer focused on utility-scale battery storage. Established in 2024 by the US-based renewables investor Bluestar Energy Capital. Since its founding, it has assembled a pipeline of over 3 GW of battery storage assets across nine German federal states.
TenneT Germany, a leading cross-border transmission system operators managing high-voltage networks in Netherlands and in extensive parts of Germany. This company achieved a historic high in 2025 with €10.05 billion in capital expenditure on German grid.
The project is officially 'grid ready.' Securing this agreement ensures a more flexible and reliable energy future for Germany. As a frontrunner under the new April 2026 allocation rules, this 'ready-to-build' status has fast-tracked this project, creating a clear roadmap for the next generation of essential energy builds.
Following models established by TenneT in the Netherlands, future phases of such agreements may include Time-Dependent Transmission Rights (TDTR). These could offer Noveria up to a 65% discount on grid fees in exchange for allowing TenneT to restrict grid usage during the busiest 15% of the year.
This project is a building block for TenneT’s "Target Grid" vision, which requires roughly 15–30 GW of utility-scale batteries in Germany by 2030 to manage a grid increasingly dominated by renewables.
