India headquartered NTPC Green Energy Ltd. (NGEL), the renewable energy arm of NTPC Limited, has issued an EPC tender for development of a 1,100 MW/3,300 MWh interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected battery energy storage system at the NTPC REL Khavda Solar Plant. The tender, numbered NGEL-CS-5779-004(BESS1R)-9, was issued on September 23, 2026. The official tender listing describes the procurement as an EPC package for development of 3,300 MWh of BESS capacity at the Khavda plant.
The complete 1,100 MW/3,300 MWh capacity will be developed as a single EPC package comprising four independently evaluable blocks. Three blocks will each have 300 MW/900 MWh of capacity, while the fourth will provide 200 MW/600 MWh. Based on the stated power and energy capacities, the project provides three hours of storage duration.
The BESS is specified for a 25-year design life with degraded capacity and daily single-cycle operation. The contractor's scope also includes comprehensive operation and maintenance for 15 years from commissioning to meet the performance parameters specified in the tender documents.
The EPC scope covers design, engineering, supply, packing and forwarding, transportation, unloading, storage, installation and commissioning of the grid-connected BESS on a turnkey basis. The successful bidder will also undertake erection, testing, commissioning and integration with the existing 33 kV system to deliver a complete BESS integrated with the owner's solar plant and the grid.
The system will include BESS containers, battery racks, battery management systems, energy management systems, SCADA, power conversion systems and inverter-duty transformers. It will also cover protection and power evacuation systems up to the owner's 33 kV pooling switchgear, cables, communications, HT and LT systems, auxiliary power, monitoring and controls, fire-fighting systems and remote monitoring.
According to the official tender schedule, document sales begin on October 1 and close on October 12, 2026. Bid submissions close at 15:00 on October 27, with opening scheduled for 15:30 the same day
