Sungrow and BW ESS have commissioned the 350 MW/1.243 GWh Hams Hall BESS in the UK, completing the transition from grid connection to commercial operation in 20 days. The project uses Sungrow's PowerTitan 2.0 technology and is expected to become Europe's largest operational BESS by storage capacity.

Sungrow, a global provider of PV inverters and energy storage systems, has completed the commissioning of the 350 MW/1.243 GWh Hams Hall battery energy storage system (BESS) in the West Midlands, UK, in partnership with energy storage owner-operator BW ESS.
The project, powered by Sungrow's PowerTitan 2.0 technology, progressed from grid connection to commercial operation in 20 days. The commissioning was announced on November 4, 2026, and Hams Hall is expected to become Europe's largest operational BESS by storage capacity.
Located adjacent to National Grid's Hams Hall substation, the project is designed to balance electricity supply and demand, support renewable energy integration, and strengthen grid resilience.
Sungrow attributed the commissioning timeline to on-site engineering support, technical preparation, and coordination with BW ESS. Dedicated BESS engineers were deployed to investigate and resolve technical challenges directly at the site, reducing reliance on remote assistance.
During the initial warm commissioning phase, engineers prioritised fault identification and chiller operation before beginning hot commissioning. Dedicated operational technology engineers remained on-site to support system integration and troubleshooting.
BW ESS representatives attended the site almost daily and maintained direct communication channels with Sungrow's headquarters. This coordination helped address outstanding technical issues and minimise delays during commissioning.
The project is expected to expand through a second phase, increasing its total capacity to 400 MW/1.424 GWh. According to BW ESS, the completed facility could support the electricity needs of approximately 1.3 million homes for up to 3.5 hours.
Hams Hall follows Sungrow's previous collaboration with BW ESS on the Bramley BESS project in Hampshire. The companies continue working together on utility-scale battery storage deployment in the UK.
As of June 2026, Sungrow had installed over 1,100 GW of power electronic converters worldwide and maintained a global network of 520 service outlets.
