EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
A 2.742 MWh battery energy storage system supplied by PowerX will support solar power sharing across four facilities in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Developed in collaboration with Toyotsu Energy, the project targets approximately 97% solar self-consumption, annual CO₂ reductions of 472 tons and a 30% reduction in maximum electricity demand. Operations are scheduled for February 2027.

Japanese battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturer PowerX, Inc., in collaboration with Toyotsu Energy Corporation, has delivered one Mega Power 2700A large-scale battery storage system to Miyoshi Logistics Center III in Miyoshi City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The logistics facility is operated by Toyotsu Logistics Service Co., Ltd. The project combines rooftop solar generation, battery storage and electricity sharing between neighboring facilities.
The installation comprises one battery container with a nominal storage capacity of 2.742 MWh and a rated capacity of 2.742 MWh. The system has a power conversion system (PCS) output of 650 kW and uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology. Manufactured at PowerX's facility in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, the Mega Power 2700A is housed in a standard 20-foot ISO container.
An 858 kW rooftop solar power system installed at Miyoshi Logistics Center III will supply electricity for on-site consumption and neighboring facilities. Through private power lines, electricity will be shared with Miyoshi Logistics Center, Miyoshi Logistics Center II and a Toyotsu Newpack Co., Ltd. facility. All participating sites are located within SC Village, a Toyota Tsusho Group co-creation area.
Surplus solar electricity will be stored in the BESS and discharged during periods of lower generation. An energy management system (EMS) will centrally monitor and control electricity generation, consumption and storage across the participating facilities.
Under a conventional arrangement limited to consumption at the solar installation site, more than half of the generated electricity was expected to remain unused. By combining inter-building electricity sharing with battery storage, the project targets approximately 97% solar self-consumption.
Deployment simulations estimate annual carbon dioxide emissions reductions of approximately 472 tons and a reduction in maximum electricity demand of around 30% through peak shaving. Electricity shortfalls will be covered through Toyotsu Energy's renewable electricity supply scheme, making the center's electricity consumption effectively 100% renewable.
The system will also support disaster preparedness. During grid outages, the solar installation and BESS are designed to supply electricity to an evacuation area established within the logistics center.
The project was selected under Japan's Ministry of the Environment FY 2024 supplementary budget program supporting renewable energy deployment and inter-building electricity sharing models.
Operations are scheduled to begin in February 2027. PowerX expects to recognize revenue from the project during the fiscal year ending December 2026.
