Executive summary

Construction of the 150 MW/300 MWh Jedwabno battery energy storage project in Poland has advanced, with R.Power deploying 64 battery containers and 32 medium-voltage transformer stations. Grid connection is planned for December 2026. The project has secured a 17-year capacity market contract, an optimisation agreement with Axpo and €64 million in financing.

R.Power Renewables has reported construction progress at its flagship 150 MW/300 MWh Jedwabno battery energy storage system (BESS) in Poland. The company confirmed that 64 battery containers and 32 medium-voltage transformer stations have been deployed at the project site. Grid connection is scheduled for December 2026, marking the next planned milestone in the development of the two-hour energy storage facility.

The deployment of battery containers and transformer stations represents an important stage in the project's construction. The battery containers will provide electricity storage capacity, while the medium-voltage transformer stations will support electrical integration within the facility. Once operational, the system will be capable of delivering its rated 150 MW output for approximately two hours at full discharge, based on its stated 300 MWh energy capacity.

The Jedwabno project forms part of R.Power's expanding European battery storage portfolio. According to the company, its BESS assets currently in operation or under construction total 0.9 GW/3 GWh. In addition, R.Power has a further 0.7 GW/2.8 GWh of commercialised, ready-to-build battery projects. Together, these represent 1.6 GW of power capacity and 5.8 GWh of energy storage capacity across the two development categories.

The project has also secured several commercial and financial arrangements supporting its development. These include a 17-year capacity market contract, which provides a long-term framework for the facility's participation in Poland's electricity capacity market. R.Power has additionally entered into a long-term optimisation agreement with Axpo Group, establishing a commercial arrangement for managing the battery's participation in electricity markets.

On the financing side, R.Power has secured €64 million in project financing from Siemens Financial Services and Erste Group. The financing forms part of the project's development arrangements as construction continues towards the planned grid connection milestone.

Marcin Pajewski, Board Member and Chief Technical Officer at R.Power, highlighted the project's progress from commercialisation and financing into construction and delivery. The company described Jedwabno as a leading project within its European battery energy storage portfolio.

Battery energy storage systems can support electricity networks by storing power during periods of higher generation or lower demand and releasing it when required. They can also provide flexibility services as variable renewable electricity generation increases.

With equipment deployment progressing, the Jedwabno facility remains under construction ahead of its planned December 2026 grid connection. R.Power has not specified a commercial operation date in the announcement.
