LG Energy Solution, a South Korea-based battery manufacturer, has entered into a strategic partnership with B2U Storage Solutions to explore battery energy storage system opportunities using repurposed batteries in the United States. Announced on September 22, 2026, the collaboration combines LG Energy Solution’s battery supply with B2U Storage Solutions’ patented technologies for repurposing batteries in grid-scale energy storage applications.
Under the agreement, B2U will receive priority access to battery capacity from LG Energy Solution. The companies plan to repurpose LG Energy Solution batteries for grid-scale BESS applications, extending their useful life before the batteries ultimately enter recycling processes.
The partnership is intended to generate additional economic value from batteries beyond their original applications. By deploying them in stationary energy storage systems, the companies expect the batteries to remain in service for additional years while deferring the costs and environmental impacts associated with recycling.
LG Energy Solution and B2U Storage Solutions are targeting utilities, energy storage developers and large-scale commercial energy users, including data centers. The partners aim to offer cost-competitive storage solutions while expanding energy storage infrastructure across the U.S.
The companies said repurposed batteries could eventually provide gigawatt-hours of storage capacity. The collaboration is also intended to strengthen grid stability as electricity demand increases and more intermittent renewable generation is integrated into the U.S. power system.
For LG Energy Solution, the partnership supports its strategy of extending the value of batteries beyond their initial applications. B2U Storage Solutions brings its experience in large-scale energy storage systems based on repurposed batteries and its patented repurposing technologies.
The companies expect the approach to help reduce energy storage costs by extracting additional value from existing battery assets. In grid-scale applications, the repurposed batteries can store electricity and discharge it when needed, supporting supply-demand balancing, reducing grid strain and improving energy resilience.
