A 104.4 kWh battery pack engineered by SPML Infra Limited has completed international safety and performance certifications for thermal runaway, system functional safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and transportation. The Pune-based BESS manufacturer plans to deploy the unit from its 2.5 GWh facility nearing completion in India's emerging grid-scale storage market.

SPML Infra Limited, an India-based BESS manufacturer and EPC contractor, has completed international safety and performance certifications for its 104.4 kWh battery pack. The tests covered thermal runaway, system functional safety, electromagnetic compatibility and transportation, the company said. The pack is a proprietary design that SPML developed under its plan to build its own technology and manufacturing base.
Abhinandan Sethi, Managing Director of SPML Infra Limited, said that the company had chosen to build its own engineering capability instead of confining itself to manufacturing or project execution. He said that the certification and testing work had validated the safety and the engineering of the product. The company plans to take the pack into commercial deployment in India's grid-scale storage market.
The manufacturing side is being built in Pune. SPML Infra is setting up a battery energy storage system factory there with an initial production capacity of 2.5 GWh, and the company said that construction is nearing completion. A second phase is planned to lift the capacity to 5 GWh.
In its latest annual report the company pointed to its order pipeline, its technology partnerships and the new manufacturing capacity as the basis for its position in the BESS market. SPML Infra pairs the product engineering with its established engineering, procurement and construction business, and it said that the combination gives it a platform to take part in India's energy storage projects.
