ai&, a vertically integrated frontier AI technology company, and Voltaiq, an Enterprise Battery AI company, have announced plans to deploy battery energy storage systems (BESS) across ai&’s planned AI data centers in Japan. The collaboration will combine ai&’s AI compute infrastructure with Voltaiq’s battery data and analytics platform to support battery quality, safety and operational reliability.
Under the partnership, Voltaiq will provide its Enterprise Battery AI Platform to support the battery lifecycle from selection and system integration through commissioning and in-field operation. The platform is designed to connect battery-related information from design, cell manufacturing, testing, integration and operations into a continuous data record.
Voltaiq uses a purpose-built data ontology to standardize information across different stages of the battery lifecycle. This allows data covering materials, manufacturing, testing, quality and field operations to be compared and traced consistently. The platform can also link field performance with upstream manufacturing and design factors, supporting the identification and resolution of battery quality anomalies.
The planned BESS deployments are intended to address power-related constraints affecting AI data centers. Battery storage can support faster grid interconnection, reduce peak demand charges and increase usable power capacity where grid connections are limited. It can also provide power support during grid disturbances, helping data centers maintain uptime for computing workloads.
Voltaiq’s platform will be used to monitor battery performance and identify potential issues across the asset lifecycle. The companies expect this approach to support commissioning, operational availability and battery asset life while helping manage risks associated with underperformance, downtime and thermal events.
The initial collaboration will focus on ai&’s planned data center deployments in Japan, where the companies cited grid constraints and data residency requirements as factors supporting the use of locally deployed energy infrastructure.
The companies also intend to extend the approach to additional sites and markets over time. The model could further include additional battery manufacturers and system partners as ai& expands its AI infrastructure.
