CATL and Galbot Deploy Battery-Powered Humanoid Robot in Factory

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 

Galbot S1 has entered regular operation on CATL’s intelligent production lines, using CATL battery cells to support up to eight hours of continuous operation. The companies also signed a global strategic cooperation agreement covering smart manufacturing, humanoid robot deployment and development of an aftermarket service standard for AI humanoid robots.

CATL is a battery technology manufacturer serving electric vehicle and energy storage markets, while Galbot develops AI-powered humanoid robots for industrial applications. The companies have signed a global cooperation agreement focused on smart manufacturing, deployment of humanoid robots and development of an aftermarket service framework for the technology. 

A central part of the cooperation is the Galbot S1, a heavy-duty humanoid robot that has entered regular operation on CATL’s intelligent production lines. According to the companies, it is the first AI humanoid robot in regular operation powered by CATL batteries. 

The Galbot S1 has a dual-arm payload capacity of 50 kg and is designed for hazardous, repetitive and physically demanding manufacturing activities. It uses vision-only centimetre-level precision positioning and provides 360-degree omnidirectional obstacle avoidance to support movement and handling tasks within production environments. 

CATL said the battery cells used by the robot incorporate cathodes based on particle-size grading technology, low-lithium-consumption anodes and a bionic self-healing electrolyte. The company reported a cell failure rate at the parts-per-billion level. The battery system enables the Galbot S1 to operate continuously for up to eight hours while supporting service life and production-line safety requirements. 

The robot has been deployed in CATL’s module and battery pack manufacturing operations, where it performs extended autonomous tasks. Applications include material handling and picking processes that involve repetitive movement and physical workloads. The deployment is intended to reduce the need for workers to perform high-intensity manual handling activities. 

The cooperation also extends beyond manufacturing deployment. CATL plans to expand its NING Service Network, which currently supports battery inspection, maintenance and recycling, to cover AI humanoid robots. Through the collaboration, CATL and Galbot plan to establish what they describe as the world’s first aftermarket service standard for AI humanoid robots. 

The agreement will also cover upgrades to smart manufacturing lines and support the global expansion and large-scale application of AI humanoid robots. The collaboration links CATL’s battery and service capabilities with Galbot’s industrial humanoid robotics technology.
