The products support off-grid switching while addressing different parts of the residential backup system. HiSwitch combines switching, protection and metering functions, while HiBox serves as a central control hub that can accommodate system expansion.
HiSwitch integrates a transfer switch, circuit breaker, meter, bypass switch and current transformer into one unit. Its DIN-rail design allows HiSwitch to be installed inside a home’s electrical distribution board, and the unit is comparable in size to a standard electricity meter. The unit supports a maximum bypass current of 100 A, allowing it to handle household wide range of loads. It is also rated for 6,000 high-current switching cycles and has a 6 kA short-circuit current rating.
The HiSwitch design allows installers to replace the switching unit itself if a fault occurs rather than replacing the entire energy storage system. Hoymiles states that this arrangement can shorten replacement time by up to 80%, reducing downtime and after-sales service costs. The unit's integrated format also reduces the number of separate components and associated cabling required for the backup installation.
HiBox performs a different role by serving as the central hub for the whole-home backup system. Households can add a second inverter to increase system capacity and backup capability as energy requirements grow. The hub also supports compatible third-party generators and PV inverters and provides data monitoring without requiring additional metering equipment. Loads connected through its Smart Port can be managed by the system to help households increase their use of available clean energy.
