Both financial close and commercial operation have been reached at Bocanova 2, the 150 MW two-hour BESS that Nightpeak Energy has developed in Texas, US. The project has been in commercial operation since 17 September 2026, and it has doubled the Bocanova site to 300 MW. MUFG Bank provided the loans, and U.S. Bank provided the tax equity.

Nightpeak Energy, a US-based owner and operator of flexible power assets, has reached financial close and commercial operation at Bocanova 2, a 150 MW BESS of two-hour duration in Brazoria County, Texas, United States. The company announced both milestones on 13 October 2026, and it stated that the project had already entered commercial operation on 17 September. The completion of that second phase has doubled the capacity of the Bocanova site to 300 MW.
Bocanova 2 is the second phase of the battery storage development that Nightpeak has carried out in Brazoria County, near the Houston metropolitan area. The first 150 MW phase, Bocanova 1, had begun commercial operation in August 2025. The batteries that have been installed in the second phase are Megapack 2 XL storage systems, which Tesla manufactures.
Bocanova 2 operates under a long-term offtake agreement with an investment-grade counterparty. Its financing was arranged through a tax equity bridge loan and a construction-to-term loan, both of which were provided by MUFG Bank, and U.S. Bank provided the traditional tax equity.
Paris Hays, the Co-founder and CEO/CDO of Nightpeak Energy, said: "We're seeing large loads come to the grid at a pace and scale that is fundamentally changing how the power sector plans for new demand." Hays added that Texas is at the forefront of that growth, and that meeting it will require significant new infrastructure as well as resources that can respond quickly as conditions change. Of the completed site, Hays said: "With 300 MW now operating at Bocanova, we're putting that kind of flexibility to work in one of the most dynamic power markets in the country." Hays also thanked the City of Alvin, Brazoria County and the local community for their support.
Bocanova 2 has added significant flexibility to the ERCOT grid, on which data centres and other large loads are driving a rapid growth in electricity demand. Nightpeak was founded in 2022, and it has since developed and acquired a portfolio of over 1 GW of operating and de-risked capacity across gas-fired generation, battery storage and powered land development. The company is also advancing a further pipeline of flexible generation and large-load projects in the United States.
Nightpeak Energy is a portfolio investment of Energy Spectrum Partners VIII, an infrastructure-focused private equity fund that is based in Dallas, Texas.
