Danish renewable energy developer European Energy has partnered with Capalo AI to provide optimisation and energy trading services for two hybrid solar and battery energy storage projects in Lithuania and Latvia. The agreement covers the Anykščiai hybrid park in Lithuania and the Saldus Hybrid Park in Latvia.
Together, the two projects combine 143.7 MW of solar generation with 71 MW/170 MWh of battery energy storage capacity. The partnership forms part of European Energy’s expansion of battery storage and hybrid renewable energy assets across the Baltic region.
At Anykščiai, European Energy has co-located a 25 MW/65 MWh BESS with an existing 78 MW solar park. The hybrid facility entered operation in June 2026. Under the partnership, Capalo AI provides optimisation and trading services for the asset, supporting its participation across electricity markets.
In Latvia, the Saldus Hybrid Park combines a 65.7 MW solar facility with a 46 MW/105 MWh battery system. Co-location enables the generation and storage components to be managed together, providing greater flexibility in responding to electricity market conditions and grid requirements.
Hybridisation allows electricity generated by the solar facilities to be stored and supplied to the grid when required. According to European Energy, the configuration also enables the assets to balance themselves more effectively behind the meter and participate in ancillary services used by system operators to maintain grid stability.
European Energy Deputy CEO Jens-Peter Zink said battery storage and hybridisation are becoming increasingly important within the company’s renewable energy portfolio. He identified the Baltic countries as markets of particular interest for this development and said the Capalo AI partnership provides optimisation and trading capabilities for operating assets across several electricity markets.
Capalo AI CEO Henri Taskinen said the company plans to optimise the Anykščiai and Saldus assets across balancing and wholesale markets using its AI-driven trading and optimisation capabilities.
The partnership strengthens the commercial and operational integration of battery storage with European Energy’s solar portfolio in the Baltics, with optimisation focused on market participation and flexible operation.
