A 480kVA/2.49MWh solar-plus-storage microgrid has been commissioned at a water treatment plant in Yemen by GSL Energy, a China-based manufacturer of lithium-ion battery storage systems. The installation integrates 12 GSL Energy high-voltage LiFePO4 battery systems with 80 Deye inverters operating in parallel.
Each battery system provides 208kWh of storage capacity. Together, the 12 units form a 2.49MWh C&I BESS that is integrated with solar PV generation and inverter controls. The system supplies electricity for water pumps, treatment equipment, and automated control systems used at the industrial facility.
The battery architecture uses modular high-voltage LiFePO4 cabinets. Each cabinet incorporates multiple battery modules and a dedicated high-voltage box for battery cluster management, safety protection, real-time monitoring, and communication with the inverter systems. The modular cabinet configuration is also intended to simplify transportation, installation, and future capacity expansion.
The project combines solar PV, Deye inverters, and GSL Energy battery storage within a microgrid architecture. The configuration is designed to manage the plant's energy supply, reduce its dependence on conventional power sources, and maintain operations where grid availability is unstable. The company identified water treatment, industrial manufacturing, commercial buildings, agricultural irrigation, and remote microgrids as potential applications for similar configurations.
GSL Energy manufactures lithium battery systems for residential ESS, C&I BESS, and large-scale energy storage projects. The company provided the battery technology for the Yemen installation, while Deye supplied the inverter equipment integrated into the commissioned microgrid.
