Eos Energy Enterprises, a US-based manufacturer of zinc-based long-duration energy storage systems, has received a Golden Dome for America contract from the Department of War. The contract covers the integration of mission-ready long-duration storage to support requirements associated with the US defense shield.
Under the initiative, Eos will first deploy its Z3 zinc-based long-duration storage technology as an initial prototype at a critical installation. The system is designed to secure power infrastructure and support mission readiness through resilient, long-duration power. Eos stated that the deployment will demonstrate its storage technology for national security applications, while the broader program is structured to scale as defense requirements evolve.
The Z3 technology is manufactured and assembled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It uses a non-flammable aqueous zinc chemistry, contains approximately 91% domestic content, and relies on a predominantly U.S.-based supply chain. The system is Section 842 NDAA- and Foreign Entity of Concern compliant.
The award was highlighted during Senator Dave McCormick's Defense and National Security Summit in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. President Donald J. Trump described the arrangement as a multi-million-dollar partnership between Eos and the Department of War. The announcement did not provide a precise contract value, storage capacity, prototype location, or deployment schedule.
Eos is also expanding manufacturing at its Thorn Hill facility in the Pittsburgh region. Its second battery line is in commercial production and adds automated manufacturing capacity for the Z3 platform. The company is working toward 8 GWh of annual production capacity in Allegheny County and has stated an objective of creating 1,000 jobs across the region.
