Delectrik wins 100 MWh flow battery project in India

A 100 MWh vanadium redox flow battery project will be deployed at Khavda Solar Park in 2027 by Delectrik Systems, an India-based flow battery manufacturer. The company has won the tender in collaboration with Bondada Engineering Limited, while NTPC Renewable Energy Limited awarded the project. NTPC Renewable Energy is a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited.

The installation will use Delectrik's non-containerized flow battery architecture, which the company states is suitable for large C&I and utility-scale applications. Khavda Solar Park is planned to reach 30 GW of renewable generation capacity by 2029. Delectrik previously deployed a smaller 3 MWh system based on similar technology at NTPC's Greater Noida site in 2025.

NTPC operates more than 90 GW of installed power capacity and has set a target of reaching 149 GW by 2032. The utility aims to include 60 GW of renewable energy within that capacity.

Delectrik stated that the Khavda installation would be India's first utility-scale non-lithium BESS and the first project of its size to be designed, engineered, and manufactured entirely in the country. These descriptions remain company claims associated with the planned deployment.

The company is targeting at least 1 GWh of flow battery orders over the next 12 months across India, Australia, ASEAN, Africa, and other markets. It has also established two wholly owned subsidiaries to cover associated upstream and downstream businesses.

Delectrik Resources Pvt. Ltd. is entering vanadium oxide production and intends eventually to undertake beneficiation and own vanadium assets. Delectrik Esaas Pvt. Ltd. plans to offer energy storage as a service to C&I customers, including data centres.
