Bondada Engineering Limited, an India-based EPC services company, has received a Notification of Award from NTPC Renewable Energy Limited for a 100 MWh Vanadium Redox Flow Battery BESS at Khavda Solar Park in Gujarat. The awarded scope covers engineering, procurement and construction of the grid-scale storage project. Bondada will execute the package with Delectrik Systems Private Limited as the technology partner.

The contract also includes 10 years of operations and maintenance after project delivery. Bondada is required to complete the project within 10 months from receipt of the Notification of Award. The company described the installation as India's first and largest grid-scale VRFB BESS project, a claim that applies specifically to the planned 100 MWh facility.

The project will use VRFB technology rather than a lithium iron phosphate configuration. Bondada stated that the selected technology has an operational life of more than 25 years and is suited to frequent charge and discharge cycling with limited degradation. The company also cited safety, stable cycling performance and lower operating costs compared with LFP battery systems as characteristics of the technology.

Bondada linked the project to long-duration energy storage applications and to the use of domestic vanadium resources. It stated that domestic material availability could reduce reliance on imported battery cells and support energy security. The company also referred to India's target of deploying about 236 GWh of BESS capacity by 2030, compared with installed capacity of about 3.3 GWh. The awarded project adds a 100 MWh VRFB installation to the country's planned storage pipeline, while placing Bondada in charge of EPC execution and long-term maintenance at the Khavda site.
