ZOE Energy Storage, a Tier 1 provider of integrated energy storage products and system solutions has entered into a joint venture with a Saudi Arabian partner to build the country's first world-class BESS manufacturing facility. The project will use ZOE’s ESS technology together with local production facilities in Saudi Arabia. The facility is part of the efforts linked to Saudi Vision 2030 and the expansion of clean energy infrastructure in the region.
The manufacturing complex will be developed in two phases, with the first phase designed to deliver 6 GWh of annual production capacity and commercial operations targeted for the first quarter of 2027. A second expansion phase will increase the site’s total production capacity to 18 GWh. The project is intended to reduce Saudi Arabia’s dependence on imported energy storage systems while supporting the country’s expanding renewable energy and grid modernization plans.
According to the company, the 150-acre facility will manufacture BESS compliant with Saudi grid requirements and European manufacturing standards. The plant is expected to obtain “Made in Saudi” certification and serve regional markets across Gulf, Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia and Africa.
Once operational, the project may support Saudi Arabia’s long-term targets to deploy 130 GW of renewable energy capacity, install 48 GWh of energy storage and increase the share of clean electricity generation to 50%. The project reflects Saudi Arabia’s efforts to expand beyond traditional energy production into clean energy equipment manufacturing.
ZOE said the facility will include a Green Energy Academy aimed at developing local technical expertise and training certified personnel for the energy storage sector. The company stated that the initiative is intended to strengthen localization of manufacturing and operational capabilities within Saudi Arabia’s clean energy supply chain.
The Saudi project represents ZOE’s second overseas manufacturing base after its production facility in Hungary. The company said the plant will focus on storage systems designed for high-temperature desert environments, targeting applications in regions with extreme climatic conditions.
Huang Jun, Chairman of ZOE Energy Group described Middle East as a strategic market for the company’s international expansion plans. He also said that the facility would support regional energy transition efforts through localized manufacturing and energy storage deployment.
