Sungrow, a provider of PV inverters and energy storage systems and Sunotec, an international renewable energy infrastructure integrator, have commissioned a 150 MW / 600 MWh BESS in Nova Zagora, Bulgaria. The project uses Sungrow’s PowerTitan 2.0, a compact liquid-cooled energy storage system designed for utility-scale deployment.
The project was developed and is owned by Enery, an independent power producer active across Central and Eastern Europe. The facility is financed through Bulgaria’s national RESTORE programme and is administered by the Bulgarian Ministry of Energy to support large-scale energy storage deployment.
The Nova Zagora BESS is one of the largest battery storage installations in Bulgaria. The facility is designed to support grid flexibility, renewable energy integration and the resilience of Bulgaria’s electricity system as more variable generation is added to the grid.
Sungrow said the liquid-cooled design of PowerTitan 2.0 helps manage operating temperatures and support safe system operation. Its compact layout is intended to reduce land requirements and shorten installation timelines for utility-scale storage projects.
The facility is also among Bulgaria’s early standalone storage assets to meet national grid requirements. Sungrow supplied the storage system, while Sunotec handled infrastructure integration and deployment. Enery will operate the asset within its clean energy portfolio and use power and balancing market participation to support asset optimization.
Anastasios Gkinis, Vice President at Sungrow Europe for Southeast Europe, Central and Eastern Europe and CIS markets, said the project reflects the pace at which storage is becoming part of regional energy systems. He said PowerTitan 2.0 supports grid stability and renewable energy deployment.
Sunotec Founder and CEO Kaloyan Velichkov said the project forms part of Bulgaria’s move toward a more resilient power system. According to the company, the partnership combines storage technology, infrastructure execution and long-term system planning.
Petya Dimova, Head of Enery Portfolio Optimization, said the start of commercial operations at Nova Zagora marks the beginning of the asset’s value creation. She said the battery will participate in power and balancing markets while providing flexibility for renewable energy integration.
The Nova Zagora project is part of an expanded battery storage buildout by Sungrow and Sunotec in Bulgaria. The companies plan to bring 2.2 GWh of battery storage capacity online over the next two months, with total capacity expected to reach 3 GWh by the end of 2026.
The pipeline also includes Knizhnovik Phase 1, a hybrid solar and storage project developed by Enery with 100 MW / 200 MWh of battery storage capacity. Together, the Nova Zagora and Knizhnovik projects are expected to support Bulgaria’s storage deployment and power system flexibility.
Sungrow said that, as of December 2025, it had installed 1,000 GW of power electronic converters globally. Sunotec, headquartered in Sofia and Munich, has delivered more than 680 photovoltaic installations with over 15 GW of installed capacity and 6 GWh of battery storage projects across Europe and other markets.
Enery operates and develops renewable energy assets across 10 countries in Central and Eastern Europe. Its portfolio includes 2 GW under construction and in operation, a project pipeline of nearly 10 GW and more than 4 GWh of third-party battery storage capacity under management.
