

HiTHIUM completed the world’s first open-door large-scale fire test for a 6.25 MWh long-duration BESS using kAh battery cells, validating system safety under extreme conditions. The test, conducted under UL 9540A and NFPA 855 standards, demonstrated no thermal propagation or structural failure, strengthening confidence in large-scale energy storage deployment and global safety compliance.

HiTHIUM officially entered the Hetao Hong Kong Park on April 30 with a launch event titled "Long-Duration Energy Storage· Pioneering the Future," featuring HKSAR officials Professor Sun Dong and Cai Jieming. Dr. Yi Ziqi, Board Member and Vice President of HiTHIUM, delivered a keynote address to mark the expansion of the energy storage firm. The vision for the Hong Kong center was first detailed in late 2025. Co-founder and CEO Jason Wang met with Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee at the HSITP opening to share plans for an international R&D center focused on long-duration energy storage (LDES) and sodium-ion batteries.
HiTHIUM debuted its 8-hour long-duration energy storage solution, featuring the 1300Ah dedicated LDES cell, at the World Future Energy Summit organized in January, 2026. HiTHIUM became the first enterprise to establish a pilot transformation base within the Hong Kong Park. The project was supported by a HK$80 million boosting fund from the Hong Kong government under the New Industrialization Acceleration Scheme.
Various officials at HiTHIUM launch highlighted the company's entry into Hetao Hong Kong Park as a major boost for the city's "New Industrialization" strategy and green energy sector. They highlighted that this move aligning with upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan, leverages the "one zone, two parks" framework to accelerate research commercialization and strengthen Greater Bay Area collaboration.
To advance the International Long-Duration Energy Storage Innovation Center, HiTHIUM focuses its strategy on three main areas:
Global R&D and Validation: The first priority involves strengthening industry partnerships to achieve consistent advancements and real-world implementation of long-duration energy storage. This effort help Hong Kong refine its new energy industry ecosystem and enhance the momentum of advanced manufacturing.
Industrial Ecosystem Integration: By capitalizing on Hong Kong's strategic position as a global gateway, the company will bridge domestic and international markets. It plans to connect the Greater Bay Area’s robust manufacturing and supply chains with rising global needs—specifically in grid storage and AI data centers—to optimize its international resource distribution and service reach.
Technological Transformation: The company will strengthen digital and intelligent transformation by advancing the integration of manufacturing systems with digital capabilities. This integration will streamline the entire process from R&D to manufacturing and quality management. This may continuously improve product safety, consistency and lifecycle competitiveness and provides a solid foundation for large-scale development of long-duration energy storage.
The establishment of HiTHIUM’s International Long-Duration Energy Storage Innovation Center will drive energy storage technology from innovation to large-scale application. This provides crucial support for Hong Kong’s growth in advanced manufacturing.
Furthermore, this initiative will enhance HiTHIUM's global production capacity and supply chain system, continuously improving its comprehensive competitiveness in the international long-duration energy storage sector project will bolster. By utilizing Hong Kong’s open innovation landscape, the company aims to create a proven development model that can be scaled elsewhere as a replica. So, this may provide strong support for Hong Kong's advancement towards new industrialization and the accelerated development of an international innovation and technology hub.
