For years, Enviro Infra (EIEL) has been the water experts, building out massive treatment plants and keeping them running through EPC and O&M contracts. But things are shifting. They aren't just a water company anymore—recent moves show them diving headfirst into the clean energy race, specifically with huge new BESS projects for the national grid.
It has strategically entered the BESS market by acquiring major orders, which includes a significant ₹1,070 crore contract from NTPC Limited in March 2026. EIEL won projects with ₹1,481 crore in March 2026, having the majority coming from the BESS segment. The primary entry point is the NTPC Limited BESS project.
Projects cover engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) for 930 MWh of battery storage, including locations in Karnataka & Telangana, Aurangabad, Uttar Pradesh & Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra.
Among these three are BESS Projects and two are Non-BESS projects
BESS Projects
1. NTPC Battery Energy Storage Projects(Karnataka & Telangana): This is the major EPC contract with ₹664.33 crore for BESS at thermal power stations Kudgi (Karnataka) and Ramagundam (Telangana). This may take 18 months for execution and 11 years of operation and maintenance.
2. Bihar Sewerage & STP Scheme(Aurangabad): This is an infrastructure contract with ₹411.08 crore by Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation for 20MLD Sewage Treatment Plant(STP), 8 pumping stations, 196 km sewerage network under AMRUT 2.0 program.
3. NTPC BESS Projects(Uttar Pradesh & Assam): This project worth ₹405.71 crore for two thermal power stations, Tanda Super Thermal Power Station in UP and Bongaigaon Thermal Power Station in Assam. This may take 15 months for construction and 11 years for maintenance.
Non-BESS Projects
4. Bhopal Sewerage Network(Madhya Pradesh): This project covers a ₹248.49 crore from the Bhopal Municipal Corporation for 273.37 km network in North-East Bhopal, 60 MLD STP, and 140.18 km network in East Bhopal.
5. MIDC Pollution Control Project(Maharashtra): This is a ₹395.5 crore project won as joint venture to design and commission Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) in Kolhapur district as part of Panchganga River Pollution Control Scheme.
The main aspect of these orders is EIEL entering into BESS segment within the renewable energy sector. Previously, the company has already operated in the B2B space, these new projects from NTPC indicate an expansion in scale and reflecting its capability to work on larger and more complex energy projects. This move positions themselves to high-growth opportunities in renewable energy integration and grid stabilization, which covers India's 208 GWh storage gap.
