Fluence Energy GmbH, LEAG Clean Power Smartstack platform
Fluence Energy GmbH, a subsidiary of Fluence Energy, Inc. and LEAG Clean Power GmbH, part of LEAG Group, announced plans to deploy a GigaBattery Jänschwalde 1000 energy storage system in Germany. The project is structured as a four-hour installation and will use Fluence’s Smartstack platform, which has been designed for modular construction and multi-hour grid operations.
The facility is intended to provide core grid functions, support energy trading and improve the integration of regional renewable resources. LEAG Clean Power stated that its GigawattFactory concept integrates solar, wind, flexible power plants and large-scale storage across sites in the Lusatian region. According to the company, the battery storage contributes to maintaining energy availability when renewable output varies.
Technology Platform
According to the Fluence Energy GmbH, the Smartstack technology will provide the required duration, control functions and operational features for the system. The company also indicated that its engineering and services teams in Germany will support delivery, commissioning and long-term operation.
Grid services
Both companies noted that the project size allows the system to deliver a range of grid services, including frequency response and balancing support. They also highlighted that the four-hour duration enables effective use of the existing grid connection and aligns with operational windows associated with renewable variability.
As development progresses, LEAG and Fluence have indicated that technical planning and execution steps will proceed according to permitting requirements and site conditions.
