PROJECT SNAPSHOT 

Finnish renewable energy developer, Winda Energy Oy has announced plans to addd a 50 MW / 100 MWh battery facility in Jämsä, Central Finland. Disclosed in January 2026, the project planned for development in partnership with Czech technology company Second Foundation. It represents one of the largest standalone battery energy storage systems currently planned in Finland. 

Construction of the project is scheduled to begin in early 2026. The development follows Winda Energy’s previously announced Rautavaara battery storage project and represents a larger capacity deployment compared with the earlier facility. The project has been structured under Winda Energy’s partnership-based development approach, combining local project development capabilities with international technology and market expertise. The development model supports coordinated project execution while incorporating battery energy storage systems intended for grid balancing and operational flexibility. 

Founded in 2011, Winda Energy specializes in wind and solar power projects across Finland, managing developments from initial planning through construction. The majority of the company’s shares are held by BHM Renewables, with a group of Finnish private investors holding minority stakes. Second Foundation brings experience managing over 400 MW of flexible assets and more than 2 GW of renewable energy sources worldwide, supporting Winda Energy’s objective of expanding large-scale energy storage capacity in Finland. 

The Jämsä battery facility is expected to rank among Finland’s larger battery energy storage installations, supporting electricity balancing, peak load management, and transmission grid stability. 

Tuomas Hooli, CEO of Winda Energy, said that the Jämsä project follows the earlier Rautavaara battery storage development and represents an increase in deployed storage capacity. He added that the project supports expansion of its energy generation and storage portfolio and reflects its ability to develop larger-scale battery facilities in response to market demand.
