Chinese battery energy storage system integrators strengthened their global lead in 2025, capturing 76% of the worldwide BESS market, according to Wood Mackenzie’s “Global energy storage system integrator market share” 2026 report. The findings show that China’s battery storage supply chain has expanded rapidly across major regional markets, with eight of the world’s top 10 system integrators now headquartered in China.
Tesla and Sungrow retained the top two global positions for the third consecutive year, while BYD moved up five places to become the third-largest BESS integrator. Wood Mackenzie said the combined share of the top three companies declined from 36% in 2024 to 30% in 2025. However, the fall has reflected rapid market expansion and growth among mid-tier suppliers rather than weakness among the leading companies.
In North America, Tesla maintained its leadership position, supported by its Megapack platform, Autobidder software and U.S.-based manufacturing capacity. NextEra Energy entered the top three regional rankings for the first time, helped by its vertically integrated self-integrator model. Wood Mackenzie noted that U.S. policy changes under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act could reshape procurement from 2026, as Foreign Entity of Concern compliance thresholds begin affecting projects seeking the 48E Investment Tax Credit.
In Europe, Sungrow retained first place, while BYD rose from fifth to second and Huawei entered the top three. Chinese companies now occupy all three leading positions in the European BESS integrator market. Growth is also expanding beyond the established markets of the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy with Bulgaria, Romania, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands and Greece emerging as second-tier growth markets.
Across Asia-Pacific, CRRC has led the regional market for the third consecutive year followed by HyperStrong and Envision. China accounted for about 85% of APAC demand while Southeast Asian markets such as the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia advanced storage procurement and regulatory frameworks.
Chinese suppliers also expanded across the Middle East and Latin America. BYD and Sungrow together captured 87% of the Middle East market while Chile remained Latin America’s most mature storage market. Wood Mackenzie said future competition will depend not only on scale, but also on policy compliance, financing support, grid-forming technology and software-driven revenue optimisation.
