Canada-based Solar module and storage provider, Canadian Solar, through its energy storage solutions business, e-STORAGE and U.S.-based clean energy developer and operator, Sunraycer, have entered into agreement for the supply and long-term servicing of two battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Franklin County, Texas.

The developments, with a total capacity of 503 MWh DC, are collectively referred to as the Lupinus projects and are being developed by Sunraycer, a clean energy developer and operator. Lupinus consists of Lupinus 1, a 202 MWh battery energy storage facility expected to begin construction in the first quarter of 2027 and enter operation in the third quarter of 2027. It also includes Lupinus 2, a 301 MWh facility scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2026 and reach commercial operation in second quarter of 2027.

Under the agreements, e-STORAGE will supply its SolBank 3.0 BESS and offer 10 years of long-term services. The services include operational support, performance optimization, and availability management across the lifecycle of the assets. The SolBank 3.0 systems will integrate battery cells manufactured within Canadian Solar’s global production network, supporting standardized equipment supply and long-term operational planning.

The Lupinus projects are planned to support renewable energy integration and grid stability within the ERCOT market, a region with growing utility-scale energy storage deployment. The projects involve the delivery and operation of standalone battery systems designed to provide operational flexibility to the power grid.

David Lillefloren, CEO of Sunraycer, said the Lupinus projects involve collaboration with e-STORAGE to deploy battery energy storage systems supporting ERCOT grid operations in Texas.

Colin Parkin, President of Canadian Solar and e-STORAGE, said the agreements cover the supply and long-term servicing of utility-scale battery systems for the Texas market.
