China-based Green technology company, Envision Energy has signed a Joint Development Agreement with Samruk-Kazyna Invest (SKI), the investment arm of Kazakhstan’s sovereign wealth fund, to advance localised battery energy storage system (BESS) production in Kazakhstan. The agreement has announced during Envision Global Tech Day, held during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) in ABU DHABI, UAE.

The signing took place in the presence of Edward Hou, Senior Vice President and President of the Asia-Pacific Region at Envision Energy and Saken Muratuly, Representative of the Chairman of Samruk-Kazyna JSC. The agreement sets out cooperation on BESS localisation, technology transfer, project execution, and regional market expansion across Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

Kazakhstan’s power system has recorded steady growth in wind and solar capacity, resulting in higher requirements for grid flexibility and dispatchable resources. Battery energy storage systems are being deployed to support grid stability, peak demand management, and renewable power integration into the national grid.

Under the agreement, Envision and SKI will work together to establish in-country production capacity for battery energy storage systems. The localization strategy is designed to support Kazakhstan’s domestic supply chain and reduce reliance on imported equipment. It also supports improved project delivery timelines and cost competitiveness for utility-scale and grid-support energy storage deployments.

The partnership outlines potential collaboration across multiple project types, including grid-scale and renewable-integrated BESS applications. Samruk-Kazyna Invest views energy storage as an important component of Kazakhstan’s power system development, particularly in supporting power system reliability as renewable capacity increases.

The agreement expands Envision Energy’s presence in Central Asia, aligning with its experience in utility-scale energy storage systems, digital energy management, and system safety, while establishing a framework for localized BESS manufacturing and project deployment in Kazakhstan.
