MAHAGENCO, an India-based state-owned power generation company, wants six BESS built at its locations in Maharashtra, India, and it has opened online bidding to developers for the 500 MW/1,600 MWh that they are to hold between them. Its Chief Engineer (RE-P&P) signed the notice on 15 October 2026, and under it the systems are to come with two-hour and four-hour storage.
All six locations are sites at which MAHAGENCO already runs power stations. Uran in Raigad district, Koradi and Nashik have each been allotted a four-hour system of 100 MW/400 MWh. Khaperkheda has been allotted 100 MW/200 MWh, while Chandrapur (Lakhmapur) and Parli have been allotted 50 MW/100 MWh each, so that those three sites are to have two-hour systems. Each system is to be connected, and its energy is to be measured, at a substation of MSETCL, the state transmission utility, at 33 kV or above.
Under the build, own and operate (BOO) model, the winning bidder is to build the systems and keep ownership of them, and for 15 years it will also run and maintain them. Two separate bids are required from each bidder, a technical and commercial one and a price bid, and once the price bids have been opened, an e-reverse auction will follow.
The tender document has been on sale through the Bharat Electronic Tender portal since 17:00 hours on 16 October 2026, and it can be downloaded once a vendor registration fee of INR 3,000, plus GST, has been paid. A pre-bid conference is to be held on 23 October, queries from bidders will be accepted until 24 October, and an amended bid document is to be issued on 28 October.
The document will remain on sale until 5 November. The online bids, along with the physical documents that support them, must then be submitted by 17:00 hours on 6 November 2026, and the techno-commercial bids are to be opened an hour later. The dates for the opening of the price bids and for the e-reverse auction are to be announced later, and MAHAGENCO has reserved the right to cancel or withdraw the invitation without assigning any reason.
MAHAGENCO is a state-owned company with its head office in Mumbai, and it runs thermal power stations at Koradi, Nashik, Chandrapur, Parli and Khaperkheda as well as a gas-based power station at Uran.
