Executive Summary

Linea Energy secured a preferred equity commitment for its 250 MW/500 MWh Mesa View standalone battery energy storage project and closed its debt financing in Upton County, Texas. NORD/LB acted as the coordinating lead arranger, with Texas Capital as a syndicate lender, while DESRI provided the preferred equity commitment. The project is expected to begin commercial operations in 2027 and deliver 250 MW of dispatchable capacity to the ERCOT market.

Linea Energy, a renewable developer and independent power producer head quartered in San Francisco, California, sponsored by EnCap Investments L.P., has reached a major financing milestone for its Mesa View BESS in Upton County, Texas. The company has closed project debt financing and secured a preferred equity commitment for the 250 MW/500 MWh standalone storage project.

The financing package includes a construction-to-term loan, a tax equity bridge loan, and a letter of credit facility. NORD/LB acted as the coordinating lead arranger, while Texas Capital joined the financing as a syndicate lender. D.E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI) provided the preferred equity commitment.

“We're proud to reach another financing milestone alongside NORD/LB and DESRI, two trusted financing partners,” said Cassidy DeLine, CEO of Linea Energy. DeLine added that the successful closing highlights the company’s ability to bring investable energy projects to the market as demand for reliable power continues to grow.

NORD/LB has also supported Linea through three previous transactions. Sondra Martinez, Managing Director at NORD/LB, said the bank was pleased to continue working with Linea and support additional battery storage capacity that can contribute to grid reliability.

DESRI is also expanding its relationship with Linea through the Mesa View project. Peter Koczanski, Head of Corporate Development at DESRI, said the partnership reflects confidence in Linea’s development platform and its ability to advance energy infrastructure projects from development to operation.

Mesa View BESS is expected to begin commercial operations in 2027. Once operational, the project will provide 250 MW of dispatchable capacity to the ERCOT electricity market. With a 500-MWh storage capacity, the facility is designed to deliver power when needed and support the reliability of the Texas grid.

The transaction also brings together several experienced energy and financial institutions. Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe served as Linea Energy’s sponsor counsel, while Winston & Strawn advised the lenders and Foley & Lardner represented DESRI.

Linea Energy, backed by EnCap Investments, develops and operates solar, wind, and battery storage projects across the U.S. The Mesa View financing adds another large-scale storage project to its growing clean energy portfolio.
