Scatec ASA has secured a 25-year, USD-denominated PPA with Egypt’s EETC to develop 1.95 GW of solar PV and 3.9 GWh of battery energy storage. The portfolio includes one solar-plus-storage hybrid and two standalone BESS projects and is expected to generate around 6,000 GWh of electricity annually, supporting baseload supply and grid stability.
PROJECT SUMMARY
Norwegian-based renewable energy company, Scatec ASA has entered into a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the government-owned company, The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), a national power grid operator for the development of 1.95 GW of solar PV and 3.9 GWh of battery energy storage.
Under the agreement, Scatec will deliver one solar-BESS hybrid system and two standalone BESS projects for baseload supply and grid support. The company has secured a 25-year USD-denominated PPA with EETC on a pay-as-produced basis. On completion, the Scatec project is expected to deliver around 6,000 GWh of electricity annually. The PPA structure provides long-term revenue certainty while supporting Egypt’s requirements for utility-scale generation and grid flexibility.
Scatec acts as the lead developer and provides Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) along with Asset Management (AM) and Operations and Maintenance (O & M) activities. The company applies experience gained from previous utility-scale solar, hybrid, and standalone BESS projects in other markets. This delivery structure supports coordination across construction, commissioning, and long-term operations.
The company plans to introduce additional equity partners. Information on capital expenditure, the final EPC scope, and the financing structure are expected to be announced at financial close in the second half of 2026.
Terje Pilskog, CEO of Scatec, said that the agreement enables the delivery of integrated solar and battery projects in Egypt, providing continuous power and grid support services.
