Sonnedix, a global renewable energy company with 12 GW of total capacity, has secured $1.3 billion through a refinancing transaction covering renewable energy and battery energy storage assets in Chile. Announced on September 10, 2026, the transaction is Sonnedix Chile’s largest refinancing to date.
The transaction refinances 1 GW of operational solar and wind capacity across Chile and provides financing for 117 MW of battery energy storage systems currently under construction. The financing is also intended to support Sonnedix Chile’s renewable energy development pipeline, including additional storage and hybrid projects.
The portfolio underpinning the refinancing has a mix of investment-grade private power purchase agreements and regulated revenues. According to Sonnedix, this combination provides revenue visibility and a financial base for continued development of its renewable energy pipeline in the country.
For the battery storage segment, the transaction provides financing for 117 MW of BESS already under construction. Sonnedix did not disclose the energy capacity in MWh, locations, individual project capacities or expected commissioning dates for these battery projects in the announcement. The company said the refinancing will allow Sonnedix Chile to focus resources on further storage and hybrid projects.
Seven commercial banks supported the transaction. BNP Paribas, Bank of America, Crédit Agricole CIB and Santander acted as Joint Lead Arrangers and Joint Bookrunners. BBVA, Goldman Sachs and MUFG participated as Mandated Lead Arrangers, while Crédit Agricole CIB also served as Hedging Coordinator.
BNP Paribas acted as Financial Advisor and Centrus as Hedging Advisor. White & Case provided New York law counsel and Morales y Besa provided Chilean law counsel to Sonnedix. A&O Shearman provided New York law counsel and Guerrero Olivos provided Chilean law counsel to the lenders. Aurora Chile served as Market Advisor, Enertis as Technical Advisor, EY provided tax and Model services, and Marsh acted as Insurance Advisor.
Sonnedix Chief Financial Officer Miguel A. García Mascuñán said the transaction provides greater financial flexibility and allows the Chilean business to direct resources toward new storage and hybrid projects.
The refinancing expands the financial base supporting Sonnedix’s existing renewable generation and battery storage activities in Chile. While the overall transaction totals $1.3 billion, the announcement does not provide a separate financing amount attributable specifically to the 117 MW of BESS under construction.
The transaction therefore combines refinancing of operating renewable assets with financing for battery storage currently under development, while supporting Sonnedix Chile’s wider pipeline of renewable energy, storage and hybrid projects.
