green flexibility has expanded its utility-scale battery storage portfolio by acquiring a pipeline of large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects from Kajoni Energie GmbH. The transaction covers projects with a combined power capacity of 750 MW and an energy storage capacity of 3 GWh, strengthening green flexibility's position in Germany's rapidly growing energy storage market.
The acquired projects are currently participating in Germany's extra-high-voltage grid connection maturity process. This stage is an important milestone for large-scale energy infrastructure because developers must demonstrate technical readiness and financial capability before receiving potential grid connection commitments. The process also requires significant upfront investment before any final connection approvals are granted.
Under the agreement, Kajoni Energie GmbH will continue developing the projects through the permitting and technical development stages until they achieve Ready-to-Build (RTB) status. Once that milestone is reached, green flexibility will assume responsibility for project construction, operation and commercial marketing.
The partnership combines Kajoni's development expertise with green flexibility's financial resources and long-term project execution capabilities. By supporting the projects during the maturity process, green flexibility enables the portfolio to continue progressing despite the substantial capital requirements associated with securing extra-high-voltage grid connections.
Manuel Stiller, Managing Director of Kajoni Energie GmbH, said the partnership was achieved through constructive negotiations and expressed confidence that the collaboration would successfully advance the projects toward implementation. He also acknowledged GreenCap Partners for managing the competitive transaction process.
Simon Wisseler, Director of Mergers and Acquisitions at green flexibility, said Kajoni had established a strong foundation for the portfolio's participation in the maturity process. He added that, alongside the company's internally developed projects, the acquisition would allow green flexibility to expand the number of large-scale battery storage projects advancing toward future deployment. Wisseler also thanked GreenCap Partners for supporting the transaction.
The acquisition reflects increasing investment in grid-scale battery storage across Germany as developers seek to improve grid flexibility and accommodate growing renewable electricity generation. Utility-scale battery energy storage systems are becoming an essential component of the country's energy transition by helping balance electricity supply and demand, supporting frequency regulation and providing flexibility services for transmission networks.
With a total capacity of 750 MW and 3 GWh, the newly acquired portfolio represents a significant addition to green flexibility's project pipeline and positions the company for further growth as Germany continues expanding its battery storage infrastructure.
