Trina Storage secures 200 MWh Greece BESS contract

Trina Storage, the energy storage division of Trina Solar headquartered in China, has signed its first energy storage project in Greece with PPC Renewables for the 50 MW / 200 MWh Amyntaio project in Western Macedonia. 

The Amyntaio project is one of the largest battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Greece, delivered on a turnkey AC basis. It includes DC battery cabinets, power conversion systems (PCS), medium-voltage (MV) skids, and a power plant controller (PPC). The 200 MWh contracted capacity is supported by 60 Elementa 2 battery cabinets and eight integrated PCS and MV skid enclosures. Together, these components provide a total nameplate capacity of approximately 244 MWh.  

The Company said that the system provides key grid services, including frequency regulation, renewable energy support, and capacity assurance. The deal also includes a 10-year long-term service agreement (LTSA) covering full maintenance, remote monitoring, spare parts management, and performance guarantees. 

Trina Storage has an existing project portfolio in Europe with more than 50 installations across the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Eastern Europe representing contracted capacity exceeding 4 GWh. The addition of the Amyntaio project marks the company’s entry into the Greek market and expands its involvement in grid-scale energy storage initiatives in the region. 

Gabriele Buccini, Head of Trina Storage Europe, said Greece is becoming a key energy storage market, supported by auctions and policy measures. He noted that the Amyntaio project is Trina’s first installation in the country and aligns with plans to build a multi-GWh storage pipeline in Southeastern Europe with PPC Renewables.
