MT Group, headquartered in Vilnius, has signed a €27.8 million EPC turnkey contract with Pure Energy Solutions for the design, construction and commissioning of a 35 MW/140 MWh Battery Energy Storage System in Rietavas, Lithuania.

Vilnius based, MT Group has signed a €27.8 million turnkey EPC contract with Pure Energy Solutions to deliver a 35 MW/140 MWh Battery Energy Storage System in Rietavas, Lithuania. MT Group will handle the design, construction, and commissioning of the project.
Strengthening Grid Flexibility and Regional Integration
The Rietavas project connects to a 110 kV high-voltage substation is operated by Lithuania’s Transmission System Operator (TSO) Litgrid. It helps Lithuania join the Baltic and Nord Pool balancing markets by providing frequency control, balancing reserves, and greater system flexibility as more renewables are added.
It also aligns with MT Group’s broader energy infrastructure portfolio, which includes hydrogen projects in Vilnius and Klaipėda, upgrades to gas compressor stations, LNG terminal works in Germany, and a CO₂ capture initiative in Denmark with Ørsted.

Dr. Kristina Norvaišienė, Executive Director at MT Group, explained that the Rietavas BESS project demonstrates the company’s role in advancing grid infrastructure. She highlighted that BESS technology increases flexibility, helps accommodate more renewable energy, and reinforces cooperation within the Baltic power market.
