Centrica Energy and Delta Capacity have signed a partial tolling agreement for the 125 MW/300 MWh Karppio battery energy storage system (BESS), a standalone battery project under development in Teuva, Finland.
The project was acquired as a ready-to-build asset from Helios Nordic Energy and is being constructed by Delta Capacity. Delta Capacity will also serve as the project’s long-term asset manager. Karppio is being developed together with the Strioga Family Foundation.
Under the partial tolling agreement, Centrica Energy will optimise and trade the project across Nordic power markets using its 24/7 trading and multi-market optimisation capabilities. The agreement covers participation in wholesale power, balancing and ancillary service markets. According to the announcement, the partial tolling structure provides secured revenues while retaining merchant upside.
Commissioning of the Karppio BESS is planned for Q4 2027. Once operational, the project is expected to provide flexibility to Finland’s power system, supporting frequency regulation, balancing requirements and the continued integration of renewable generation.
The agreement builds on the partnership between Centrica Energy and Delta Capacity following the go-live of Delta Capacity’s 70 MW/160 MWh Ånge BESS project in Sweden’s SE2 bidding zone earlier in 2026. Centrica Energy also provides optimisation services for that project. The announcement describes Ånge as currently the largest operating BESS in the Nordics.
Centrica Energy said Finland’s continued growth in renewable generation is increasing demand for flexible assets that can respond to market and electricity-system requirements in real time.
Delta Capacity said the agreement reflects the long-term relationships it is seeking as it expands across the Nordic region. The company highlighted Centrica Energy’s trading expertise and experience in Nordic power markets.
The announcement said Finland’s electricity system continues to see growth in renewable generation, particularly wind power. Battery storage is expected to support system stability, balance electricity supply and demand and enable more efficient use of renewable energy.
