Two finished BESS in north-eastern Poland, which already hold 17-year capacity market contracts, are to be sold by Greenvolt to the Malta-based A&R Investments. The plants at Ełk and Turośń Kościelna have been rated at 200 MW/800 MWh each, and the sale is expected to be closed by the end of 2026.

Greenvolt, a Portugal-based renewable energy group, has agreed to sell two completed BESS in north-eastern Poland to A&R Investments, an investment vehicle from Malta. The deal was announced on 23 October 2026 by Greenvolt Power, the development arm of the group, which had built both plants. They stand at Ełk and at Turośń Kościelna, and together they are rated at 400 MW/1.6 GWh. Greenvolt expects the sale to be closed before the year is out.
What the buyer is getting are two finished plants whose income has largely been fixed in advance. Ełk and Turośń are of the same size, 200 MW/800 MWh each, and that is enough for each to run at full power for about four hours. Work on both was finished in the third quarter of 2026. From 2028, each will be paid under a 17-year capacity market contract for keeping 85% of its rated capacity at the disposal of the grid, and a 10-year tolling agreement allows their flexibility to be traded in the power markets.
These projects represent an important addition to our portfolio and an opportunity to invest in large-scale battery storage assets in Poland. Their scale and role in providing flexibility to the electricity system make them valuable assets in a market where storage is becoming increasingly important.
Christian Buhagiar, Director at A&R Investments
For Greenvolt, the sale is a part of its asset rotation strategy, under which approximately 70% to 80% of the projects it develops itself are to be sold and the capital is put into new ones. That strategy had brought 1 GW of completed sales by the end of 2025. In Poland, Greenvolt Power has cited a BESS portfolio of 1 GW/4 GWh, and its largest part, the 600 MW/2.4 GWh Siedlce BESS, has been under construction since September 2026.
We have one of the largest battery storage pipelines in Europe, have built strong expertise in developing these assets and will continue investing in this sector. The need for storage capacity and flexibility is growing rapidly, and this transaction confirms that high-quality BESS projects meet a clear market need and attract investor interest.
João Manso Neto, Chief Executive Officer of Greenvolt Group
The deal adds to a busy month for battery storage in Poland. In October 2026, Actis agreed to buy 1,141 MWh of BESS projects from DRI, Northland Power closed the financing of its 300 MW/1.2 GWh pair of projects, and R.Power reported 64 battery containers on site at its 150 MW/300 MWh Jedwabno BESS. Behind that pace lies a large shift, for Poland is expected to retire approximately 18 GW of coal by 2040 while it adds 50 GW of renewables.
