News Synopsis
Through a €48.5 million financing package from the International Finance Corporation, Aukera has reached financial close on the second phase of its Gura Ialomitei BESS project in Romania. Aukera is a Belgium-based renewable energy and battery storage developer operating across European markets.
The financing comprises €40 million for capital expenditure and an additional €8.5 million (~$9.7 million) VAT facility. It will support construction of the project's remaining 100 MW/200 MWh capacity.
This second phase will increase the Gura Ialomitei installation to 250 MW/500 MWh. Commercial operation is expected to begin in early 2027.
The development follows completion of the project's 150 MW/300 MWh first phase recently. Kommunalkredit Austria AG provided a €60 million credit facility for that phase in November 2025.
The two phases have consequently secured more than €100 million in debt financing from two international financial institutions. IFC identifies the Gura Ialomitei development as part of a wider Romanian portfolio of standalone, two-hour BESS projects being developed by Aukera.
