Flower, a Sweden-based energy technology company specializing in battery storage optimization and flexibility services, has signed a share purchase agreement with Chint Solar Europe to acquire seven ready-to-build battery energy storage system (BESS) projects across Germany. The portfolio has a combined capacity of 112 MW/332.5 MWh, with individual project capacities ranging from 6 MW to 48 MW.
The projects are located across seven municipalities in five German states and have storage durations ranging between three and four hours. Each project has already secured grid connection agreements and the required permits, enabling construction to proceed. Commissioning is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027, with several of the facilities expected to become Flower's first operational battery storage assets in Germany.
Under the agreement, Flower will own, finance, operate and commercialize the battery storage systems. Chint Solar Europe will remain responsible for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) under a turnkey contract while also providing long-term operations and maintenance (O&M) services after commissioning.
The acquisition expands Flower's publicly announced German development portfolio to approximately 300 MW. The company has been steadily increasing its presence in Germany since becoming an approved Balance Responsible Party (BRP) in 2025. Earlier this year, Flower acquired a 63 MW/257 MWh battery storage project in Döllnitz, Saxony-Anhalt, and advanced two internally developed projects to ready-to-build status, including a 100 MW/400 MWh project in Hamburg and a 10 MW/20 MWh project in Saarland.
Flower has also entered into a virtual Flexibility Purchase Agreement (FPA) with ENGIE covering 126 MW of battery storage capacity in Germany. The agreement is intended to support project financing, deployment and commercial operation across several battery storage assets.
Following the latest acquisition, Flower plans to commercialize the newly acquired storage assets in Germany's flexibility market, where battery systems provide services that support grid stability and facilitate greater integration of renewable electricity.
The transaction was completed through a newly established special purpose vehicle (SPV) owned by Flower's parent company. Legal advisory services for the acquisition were provided by DLA Piper. The addition of the Chint Solar portfolio further strengthens Flower's European battery storage pipeline, which now represents a multi-gigawatt-hour development portfolio across several markets.
