HiTHIUM, a Chinese energy storage company designed to optimize energy management, reduce electricity costs, and provide reliable power backup for homes, business, and off-grid locations, has introduced its next-generation sodium-ion energy storage solution, 4 MWh ∞Power N4.0MWh, at its “Powered Day in, Day out” launch event. The event marks progress in the company’s efforts to bring sodium-ion battery technology into large-scale energy storage applications.
The company introduced the sodium-ion energy storage system designed around its new ∞Cell N785Ah sodium-ion battery. HiTHIUM plans to begin full-scale production and deliveries in 2027. The system has a designed service life of 30 years, which the company says is intended to meet the long-term requirements of infrastructure projects.
The ∞Cell N785Ah battery has a designed service life of 20,000 cycles and can support storage durations ranging from two to eight hours. HiTHIUM has also designed the sodium-ion cell to work with its existing 1,000 Ah lithium-ion manufacturing platform. This includes cell and system integration production lines, allowing the company to scale sodium-ion production without building an entirely separate manufacturing setup.
The ∞Power N4.0MWh uses a stacked-cell architecture and a dedicated battery management system. Its state-of-charge estimation accuracy is within 2.5%, while the system can work with power conversion systems ranging from 800V to 1500V. HiTHIUM said the PCS rated-power utilization is more than 20% higher than its previous-generation sodium-ion system.
The company has also focused on reducing the physical and operating requirements of the system. The optimized architecture cuts the station footprint by 30%, while 24-hour comprehensive efficiency exceeds 88%. A hybrid air-liquid cooling system, AI-based thermal management, and integrated meteorological monitoring adjust cooling based on weather data. According to HiTHIUM, this can reduce operating auxiliary power consumption by 30% and standby auxiliary consumption by 50%.
At the event, HiTHIUM highlighted the wider role it expects sodium-ion technology to play as materials, manufacturing processes and supply chains develop. Sodium is abundant and widely distributed, supporting resource security and supply-chain stability compared to technologies dependent on limited resources.
HiTHIUM also announced the ∞Edge Pioneer Program, which will test its sodium-ion batteries and systems in extreme environments. The company plans to share progress over the next three years and introduce technology packages for different operating conditions.
The event focused not only on the new product but also on HiTHIUM's plan to move sodium-ion storage from development and testing toward commercial deployment in utility-scale, commercial, industrial, and residential applications.
