

By completing Hyundai Motor Group’s ZERO1NE Accelerator program, UNIGRID validates its proprietary sodium chromium oxide chemistry for BESS. The NCO cells have demonstrated long-term life under 100% depth-of-discharge cycling and have passed safety tests without fire or thermal propagation. It operates well at temperatures ranging from -20°C to 60°C. Hyundai Motor Group and its Korean integration partners plan to jointly develop and demonstrate NCO-based sodium-ion BESS systems for distributed energy applications at global production facilities.

UNIGRID’s NCO cells had passed rigorous safety tests with no fire or thermal propagation and demonstrated strong durability under 100% depth-of-discharge cycling with minimal capacity degradation. The collaboration, which was launched in 2025, evaluates safe and non-flammable BESS technologies for future energy infrastructure. The cells also operated across a wide temperature range of -20°C to 60°C.
Following the validation, Hyundai Motor Group and its Korean integration partners plan to jointly develop and demonstrate an NCO-based sodium-ion BESS. The systems are expected to support distributed energy applications across the Group’s global production facilities and energy businesses. UNIGRID Inc., a sodium-ion battery technology company, has completed the ZER01NE Accelerator program of the Hyundai Motor Group. It also has validated its proprietary sodium chromium oxide (NCO) chemistry for battery energy storage applications.
