Battery energy storage integrator Valo has been selected by Atmos Renewables to deliver the 400 MW / 1,600 MWh Teebar Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Queensland, Australia. At this scale, Teebar is one of the largest battery energy storage projects currently committed for construction in the state.

The project will be located in Queensland’s Fraser Coast region, adjacent to the Teebar Creek Substation. It is expected to reach commercial operation in late 2028 and will support grid stability and the integration of increasing volumes of renewable generation across Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM).

Valo will support Atmos Renewables in meeting performance, reliability and social licence requirements associated with Australia’s Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS). Teebar BESS has also secured Generator Performance Standards (GPS) approval for grid-forming operation in the NEM.

The project will use Valo’s GridSolve™ Quantum2 energy storage system together with GEMS software. The technology combines energy management and advanced power plant control to optimise system performance, support grid requirements and maximise asset value.

A long-term service agreement will complement the technology package. It will provide performance and availability guarantees as well as maintenance, remote operational support, software updates and performance monitoring.

The project represents an early milestone for Valo following the launch of the company as a joint venture between Wärtsilä and RCT Solutions. Valo said its new brand is underpinned by decades of energy storage deployment experience in Australia and international markets.

the company’s experience delivering and commissioning grid-scale battery projects across the NEM, including grid connection and hold point testing, supports the delivery of large-scale storage projects.
According to Valo Managing Director Australia Suraj Narayan

Atmos Renewables CEO Nigel Baker said Teebar BESS will play an important role in supporting Queensland’s growing renewable energy system while providing long-term benefits for the local community.

With Teebar BESS, Valo’s Australian energy storage portfolio expands to more than 7.6 GWh, strengthening its utility-scale storage presence in the Australian market.
