A Canadian global power producer Northland Power has closed approximately PLN 500 million (CAD 185 million) in project financing for two battery energy storage system projects under construction in Poland. The projects comprise the 100 MW/400 MWh Kamionka BESS and the 200 MW/800 MWh Mieczysławów BESS, providing a combined 300 MW/1.2 GWh of storage capacity. Global law firm Clifford Chance advised Northland Power on the syndicated financing transaction. Northland Power Inc.

Northland Power is a Canadian global energy provider established in 1987. The company develops, owns and operates energy infrastructure across offshore and onshore wind, solar, natural gas-fired generation and grid-scale battery storage. Its current portfolio includes about 3.6 GW in operation and 2.4 GW under construction. Northland Power Inc.

The financing was secured with Canadian and Polish financial institutions and completes the funding structure for the two Polish storage projects. Both facilities have also received grants totaling approximately PLN 280 million (CAD 105 million) from Poland's National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. Northland has fulfilled its equity commitment using corporate cash and available funding. The combined capital cost is estimated at approximately PLN 1.0 billion (CAD 0.4 billion). Northland Power Inc.

Northland acquired Kamionka and Mieczysławów as late-stage, pre-construction projects in November 2025 and subsequently advanced development, financing and construction. Both are four-hour storage projects located in western Poland. A portion of their revenues is contracted through 17-year inflation-indexed auction agreements, with additional revenue opportunities expected from energy arbitrage and ancillary services markets. Northland Power Inc.

Construction of both projects is underway. Kamionka is scheduled to begin commercial operations in early 2028, while Mieczysławów is expected to follow in mid-2028. Northland expects the facilities to be among Poland's first utility-scale standalone battery storage projects when operational. Northland Power Inc.

Clifford Chance's Warsaw and Amsterdam teams advised on the financing, energy regulatory and Dutch law aspects of the transaction.
