EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
A 60 MW/165 MWh co-located BESS has been added to Renalfa IPP’s Devnya PV plant in Northeastern Bulgaria as part of its repowering and hybridization. The solar facility was expanded from 5 MWp to 65 MW, supporting the company’s strategy to maximize available grid connections by co-locating BESS with PV.
Renalfa IPP, an Austrian joint venture between Renalfa Solarpro Group, a clean energy and e-mobility company based in Vienna has completed the repowering and hybridization of the Devnya PV plant in Northeastern Bulgaria. The plant had a nominal capacity of 5 MW and has been operating since 2011. Following the repowering, the solar park now has an installed capacity of 65 MWp and has been hybridized with a co-located battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 60 MW/165 MWh. Solarpro Bulgaria acted as project manager and EPC contractor.
The Devnya project is another Renalfa IPP asset that has been repowered and hybridized as part of the company’s strategy to maximize the available grid connection by co-locating BESS with PV. The approach is also intended to optimize the value of the production profile and the sale of green baseload products.
In November 2025, Renalfa IPP completed the repowering of its Kaolinovo PV park in Northeast Bulgaria. The project was repowered from 10 MWp to an installed capacity of 60 MW and hybridized with a co-located BESS with a capacity of 33 MW/110 MWh.
Renalfa IPP is an Austrian joint venture between Renalfa Solarpro Group, a clean energy and e-mobility company based in Vienna, and French renewable energy infrastructure fund manager RGREEN INVEST. The company is an investor and developer of renewable energy projects in Central and Eastern Europe.
According to the company, Renalfa IPP has more than 806 MW of operating and generating assets and over 1 GWh of energy storage in operation. It also has more than 1.1 GW of generating projects and more than 3.5 GWh of BESS in the final stages of construction and development.
Renalfa IPP is active in Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and North Macedonia. The completion of the Devnya repowering and hybridization adds another solar-plus-storage asset to its operating portfolio in Bulgaria.
