EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Greenvolt Power, a renewable energy developer and a subsidiary of the Greenvolt Group, has started construction of BESS Siedlce, a 600 MW/2.4 GWh battery energy storage system in Poland. According to the company, the facility will become the largest battery energy storage project in Poland and one of the largest projects of its kind in Europe.

The start of construction marks another step in the development of Greenvolt Power’s battery storage portfolio in the Polish market. The company is building on experience gained through its BESS Turośń Kościelna and BESS Ełk projects.

Once operational, BESS Siedlce, BESS Turośń Kościelna and BESS Ełk are expected to provide a combined 1 GW of power and 4 GWh of energy storage capacity. This gives the three-project portfolio an implied four-hour storage duration based on the combined power and energy figures.

Greenvolt Power is delivering the Siedlce investment together with P&Q and ONDE. The company said it has previously worked with the two contractors on renewable energy and energy storage projects.

The 600 MW/2.4 GWh Siedlce project represents 60% of the power capacity and storage capacity of the three-project portfolio cited by Greenvolt Power. Its construction therefore accounts for the largest individual share of the company’s stated 1 GW/4 GWh Polish BESS portfolio.

Battery energy storage systems can store electricity and discharge it when required, supporting the management of variations between electricity generation and demand. At the project level, Greenvolt Power’s announcement confirms that Siedlce has now moved into the construction phase.

The company did not disclose the construction completion date, commissioning schedule, battery supplier, technology provider, investment value or grid connection details in the supplied announcement.
